It is not guaranteed that keyboard extension cables will work properly. Problems can be expected when extension cables are too long. The cable acts as a filter affecting the communication between keyboard and computer. If this influence is too big, the communication will fail. The use of keyboard extension cables is dependent of the computer system.
If there is really a need to have longer cables, an RS232 reader may be considered. Opticon has a software package called Tscan, which converts the data received on the COM port to keyboard data. So, the data from the RS232 reader is treated as keyboard input, and therefore the RS232 reader can be used like the keyboard wedge within any application too. |
